CSV to JSON
Turn a spreadsheet export into JSON records, in the page.
- Runs in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded
- No sign-up, no quotas, free to use as often as you like
How it works
The reverse trip: a colleague sends a spreadsheet and something needs it as JSON — a seed file, a test fixture, an import script. Those exports are usually full of real data, which is a good reason not to paste them into an unknown website.
The first row becomes the keys
Column headings are used as the property names for every record. Blank headings are given a placeholder name rather than being dropped, so no column silently disappears.
Quoted fields are parsed properly
Fields wrapped in quotation marks may contain commas, line breaks and escaped quotes, and are read correctly. This is what separates a real CSV parser from splitting on commas, and it is why addresses and free-text notes survive the trip.
Numbers and booleans become real types
A value that is entirely a number becomes a JSON number, and true/false becomes a JSON boolean. Everything else stays a string. That is usually what you want; if you need everything as strings, quote the values in the source.
Blank rows are skipped
Trailing empty lines, which spreadsheet exports produce constantly, are ignored rather than becoming empty records.
CSV to JSON — questions
Does it handle quoted fields with commas in them?
Yes. Quoted fields, embedded commas, line breaks and escaped quotes are all parsed correctly.
Are numbers converted to real numbers?
Yes, as are true and false. Everything else stays a string.
What if my CSV has no header row?
Add one first — the first row is used for the property names.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
