How it works

Copying text out of a PDF or an email nearly always leaves a break at the end of every visual line, so the text refuses to reflow when pasted somewhere narrower. This puts it back together.

Keeping paragraphs

The default joins lines within each paragraph while keeping the blank line between paragraphs, which is what prose needs. Joining everything collapses the lot into one line.

Blank lines only

The third mode leaves line breaks alone and simply removes empty lines, which suits lists rather than prose.

The three modes

Join lines, keep paragraphs turns the line breaks inside each paragraph into spaces but keeps a blank line between paragraphs. Join everything into one line turns every line break into a single space. Remove blank lines only keeps every line as it is and drops the empty ones. In both joining modes, spaces on either side of a removed break collapse to one.

Why text needs this

Text copied out of a PDF, an email or a terminal usually carries a hard line break at the end of every visual line. Pasted into a document or a form, those breaks chop sentences in half; joining the lines turns it back into flowing text.

FAQ

Remove line breaks — questions

Why does PDF text break like that?

A PDF stores text as fragments positioned on a page, with no concept of a paragraph. Copying reconstructs lines visually, so each visual line becomes a separate line of text.

Will it merge separate paragraphs?

Not in the default mode — blank lines between paragraphs are preserved.

Is my text uploaded?

No, it is processed in the page.
