How it works
Cropping is the most-used photo edit there is, and it is usually the one you want to do before a picture goes anywhere. Trimming a face out of a group shot, cutting a receipt out of a cluttered desk, squaring a photo for a profile picture — in all of those the whole point is that the rest of the frame is nobody else's business. This cropper never sends the picture anywhere, because it runs inside this page.
Drag to choose the area
Press anywhere on the picture and drag to draw a selection, or drag the selection itself to move it and its corners to resize. The live readout shows the exact pixel size you will get, which is what matters when something has a minimum size requirement.
Ratio presets for the places you are posting to
Free cropping is the default. The presets lock the shape while you drag: 1:1 for profile pictures and product grids, 4:5 and 9:16 for phone-shaped feeds and stories, 16:9 for video thumbnails and slides, 4:3 and 3:2 for ordinary photographs. Once a ratio is locked, dragging changes the size without changing the shape.
Quality and file type
The cropped area is copied out at its original resolution — nothing is scaled, so there is no softening. PNGs come back as PNGs and everything else comes back as a high-quality JPEG. Because a crop discards pixels, the file is normally smaller than the original.
What it does not do
This tool crops. It does not rotate, resize or compress — those are separate tools on this site, and doing one thing at a time keeps each of them simple and predictable.
Crop an image — questions
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The image is decoded and cropped by your own browser. There is no upload and no server copy at any point.
Does cropping reduce the quality?
No. The selected area is copied at full resolution rather than being scaled, so the pixels you keep are identical to the original.
Can I crop to an exact size in pixels?
You can see the exact pixel size as you drag, and lock the shape with a ratio preset. To hit a specific size exactly, crop to the right shape here and then use the resize tool.
Is there a watermark or a limit on how many images I can crop?
No watermark, no sign-up and no daily quota. Crop as many as you like.
