How it works
Counting days between dates comes up for deadlines, notice periods, visa stays, project plans and anniversaries. Doing it by hand is easy to get wrong by one, and the error is usually the one that matters.
Inclusive or exclusive
This is where most disagreements come from. The days between Monday and Friday is four if you count the gaps, and five if you count both days themselves. Contracts and visa rules differ on which they mean, so both are offered — check which your situation needs before relying on the number.
Working days
Saturdays and Sundays are excluded from the working-day count. Public holidays are not, because they differ by country and by region; subtract them yourself if the count has to be exact.
Years and months as well as days
The same span is also expressed as whole years, months and leftover days, which is how notice periods and ages are normally written.
Leap years
Handled automatically, since the count comes from the real calendar rather than an assumed year length.
Days between two dates — questions
Should I count both end dates?
It depends on what you are measuring. Contracts and visa rules differ, so both figures are shown — check which yours means.
Does it exclude public holidays?
No. Weekends are excluded from the working-day count, but holidays vary by country and must be subtracted yourself.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. The count uses the real calendar.
